Festival donations will allow Oregon Food Bank to help thousands in need

Portland, Oregon – July 8, 2014 - The best lineup in 27 years, fantastic weather, dedicated sponsors, thousands of enthusiastic volunteers, and generous blues fans came together to make the 2014 Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival a spectacular success.

The Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, presented by First Tech Federal Credit Union, raised $1,114,004 through donations at the gate as well as purchases of special passes and Delta Music Experience blues cruise tickets. Approximately 100,000 people attended over the four days of this year’s event.

“We can’t thank our attendees enough for their generous support; without them we could not have reached our goal,” said Susannah Morgan, CEO of Oregon Food Bank. “The donations we received will provide three million meals for families and individuals struggling with hunger in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.”

“The talent at this year’s festival was amazing. From 81 years-young Leo “Bud” Welch to the up and coming group Homemade Jamz, it was a wonderful mix. We are also very grateful to Curtis Salgado for stepping up at the last minute to end our festival weekend,” she added.

Blues fans were treated to more than 100 acts including Curtis Salgado, Boz Scaggs, Los Lobos, Maceo Parker, Charlie Musselwhite, Lee Fields and the Expressions, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Los Loney Boys, Joan Osborne with the Holmes Brothers, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas, Blind Boy Paxton, Otis Taylor, Sugaray Rayford Band, Gabriel Cox, Tony Coleman, Rae Gordon Band, Ural Thomas and the Pain, and Hillstomp.
