Oregon Food Bank is fortunate to be part of a caring, supportive business community that takes an active interest in the fight against hunger. And we’re pleased to count The Standard,a Portland-based insurance company, as one of our supporters.
Each year as part of the company’s philanthropy and community involvement campaign, The Standard holds a “Jeans Day” program, which encourages employees to donate funds to support a nonprofit in exchange for the opportunity to dress down at work on Fridays. For 2011, The Standard chose Oregon Food Bank as its Jeans Day recipient. All employee contributions are matched one-for-one by the company and are donated to OFB. The combined donation from employees and the corporate match is expected to exceed $100,000.
This donation is just one of the ways The Standard supports OFB’s mission. Since 2002, employees of The Standard have donated more than 3,600 volunteer hours to OFB. In September, the company invited OFB to participate in its 2010 volunteer expo, which connects employees with local volunteer opportunities. The event helped OFB reach a new audience to educate them on the benefits and rewards of volunteering. The Standard has also been a supporter of OFB’s annual Oregon Harvest Dinner fundraising gala since 2005.
