Oregon Food Bank's Nutrition Education program offers hands-on cooking and nutrition education classes to low-income community members by partnering with community organizations and social service agencies serving limited- resource clients.
Classes are taught in English and in Spanish and may be targeted to serve kids, teens, young parents, adults, families or child care professionals.
Classes challenge students to reconsider food preferences and habits and teach cooking methods, nutrition, food safety, practical shopping and meal planning — skills that increase food security and quality of life.
The classes are led by trained volunteers using curricula from Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters™, a national nutrition education program hosted in more than 25 cities from coast to coast.
Cooking Matters™ is nationally sponsored by the ConAgra Foods® Foundation and Walmart.
