Together we can end hunger

"Solving hunger and its underlying causes is a question of the values we demonstrate as a community. It's how we respond to the needs of our neighbors--our children, our senior citizens, our disabled and our working poor.

"One person alone can't solve the problem. But together, we can eliminate hunger. I invite you and every citizen in Oregon and Clark County, Wash., to do whatever you can to fight hunger and its root causes ... because no one should be hungry."

—Rachel Bristol, executive director

"We don't have the money to pay the mortgage, the electricity, everything else -- and still buy food."

"It hurts when your kids are hungry."

Hunger remains a huge issue in Oregon and Clark County, Wash.

You can make a difference

Participate in the KGW NewsChannel 8 Great Food Drive, presented by Tillamook Cheese and supported by U.S. Bank. Help us raise one-million pounds of food during the month of March.

Every $10 you donate enables OFB to provide enough food to help an agency fill an emergency food box -- enough food to feed a family for four days.

How to help:

* Donate online.

* Purchase Tillamook Cheese from any retailer.For every pound sold, Tillamook Cheese will donate one cent to the Great Food Drive. Last year, Tillamook's statewide cheese sales resulted in a $16,000 donation to the Great Food Drive. Look for Great Food Drive signs at Albertsons, Fred Meyer and New Seasons Markets.

* Donate cash or nonperishable food at KGW's studios, 1501 S.W. Jefferson in Portland.

* Donate cash or nonperishable food at any branch of U.S.  Bank in Oregon and Clark County, Wash.

* New Seasons will have demonstrations and specials featuring Tillamook Cheese. Customers can also donate food at any New Seasons location or donate cash online at New Seasons Market's online shopping Web site. Click on "Giving" then select Oregon Food Bank.

Donations to the Great Food Drive will help fight hunger in your local community.
