Oregon Food Bank donation programs
Addressing the greatest need
Unrestricted gifts
Like the ache of an unfilled belly, hunger gnaws at our communities. Contributions to this fund enable Oregon Food Bank to respond immediately to critical demands. From food shortages, to spiraling fuel costs, to meeting needs in under-served areas, this fund acts as a safety-net for vital functions and allows OFB to fund central operations.
As the hub of a statewide network of 919 hunger-relief agencies in Oregon and Clark County, Wash., OFB coordinates services, repacks food, collects and delivers donations, schedules volunteers and provides expertise. Your gift to this fund ensures the welfare of our communities in many ways ... because no one should be hungry.
Food to the table
Food purchase fund
Your gift to this fund touches many lives. For every dollar you donate, OFB can move five pounds of food through its food distribution program. A $10 gift means enough food for an emergency food box that will feed a family of four for three to five days.
Each year, more than 55-million pounds of food flow through the Oregon Food Bank Network to an estimated average of 192,000 people each month. Of those, 37 percent are children. Your gift supports this vital food lifeline.
The demand for emergency food remains steady while food sources have declined. Your donation helps us fill the gap, ensuring that parents, strapped by budgets that don't stretch far enough, can feed their hungry children; that seniors, living on fixed-incomes, don't go without; and that disabled individuals have access to a basic human necessity- food.
Keeping it fresh
Fresh Alliance
Thanks to OFB's innovative Fresh Alliance Program, milk, meat and produce are on the plates of those who need it most. This highly-nutritious food, once destined for the land-fill, is being put to use feeding hungry families. Through Fresh Alliance, perishable products at or near their pull dates are collected from retailers and distributed to people in need. Within 24-hours, these nutritious products are on their way to hunger-relief agencies.
Last year, OFB's Fresh Alliance program distributed nearly 5-million pounds of perishable food throughout Oregon and southwest Washington. More than 130 stores participate in the program statewide, making perishable food an ever-increasing portion of the food that the OFB Network distributes. The program requires that OFB and its member agencies maintain refrigerated work and storage areas, refrigerated trucks, pallet jacks and other equipment, all of which increase the cost of acquiring food. Your contribution ensures that the Fresh Alliance program can continue providing fresh, nutritious food to people who are hungry.
The root of the problem
Advocacy
Oregon Food Bank is nationally recognized for leading the fight against the root causes of hunger.
OFB's advocacy program works to find long-term solutions in the fight against hunger. Your support allows OFB to address hunger's root causes by supporting public policies that benefit low income families, such as food stamp outreach, earned-income tax credits, affordable housing and children's health care.
Making a lasting impact
Endowment fund
A donation to OFB's endowment fund is a gift to the next generation. Over time, an endowment gift of any size can make a truly lasting impact.
Thanks to the generosity and dedication of our donors and friends, OFB's endowment fund continues to grow. Per OFB Board policy, investment income from this fund provides a dedicated stream of funds for acquiring emergency food. The endowment fund was created in 1995 to ensure OFB's future financial stability and to fulfill its mission for years to come. A gift to OFB's endowment fund plants a nourishing seed for the future.
