Quasi-Endowment Fund
Endowment fund ... an investment in the future
Oregon Food Bank's Board of Directors established a Quasi-Endowment Fund in 1998 to provide a long-term source of revenue.
OFB's Quasi-Endowment Fund isn't intended for routine
general operating expenses. Rather, earnings from the endowment
will protect vital programs. OFB may use the principal only in
an extreme emergency that jeopardizes OFB's mission and services
to clients.
Beginning with $50,000 from operating reserves,
the fund has grown to more than $1,000,000. Many donors have arranged
for future contributions through planned gifts including bequests,
charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts.
Oregon Community Foundation manages our Quasi-Endowment Fund.
During the first year of operations in our wonderful new Meyer Memorial Trust Oregon Food Bank Building in 2002, we moved nine-million more pounds of food than any previous year. And we were able to repack fresh produce, dairy and meats on sitesomething we couldn't do in our previous buildings.
But with ownership of an $11 million facility, long-term funding becomes as important as day-to-day operating support. We need to maintain the building over time without jeopardizing services to hunger-relief agencies and hungry people. In the future, OFB's Quasi-Endowment Fund will provide this funding.
