12 workplace giving stars in 2018

February 15, 2019 – With many ways companies can contribute to philanthropy, encouraging and allowing employees to give back to their community through workplace giving is an easy, high-impact option.

In 2018, many Portland-area companies provided an employee giving campaign. Additionally, many of the companies below took it a step further by providing an additional match to the organization an employee contributes to.

Here are 12 that set the bar high in 2018 to help end hunger in Oregon:

1. Applied Materials
Applied Materials held their annual food drive and workplace giving campaign focused on Oregon Food Bank that raised over $32,000.

2. Avangrid Renewables
Together with Avangrid Renewables employees and their match, over $10,000 helped us feed our neighbors.

3. IBM
Continuing their dedication to ending hunger, IBM employees designated donations to Oregon Food Bank that totaled more than $24,000.

4. Intel
Last year, the Intel Foundation matched its employees generous donations dollar-for-dollar raising an incredible $150,000 to help end hunger in Oregon.

5. Liberty Mutual Insurance
Through their Give with Liberty Initiative, Liberty Mutual Insurance employees provided over $15,000 through their employee giving campaign every year.

6. Macy’s
Macy’s and Macy’s employees raised more than $15,000 to help address food insecurity in our community through their annual Bag Hunger Campaign that takes place every March.

7. Moda Health
The many devoted employees of Moda Health collectively raised over $10,000 in 2018 to feed the human spirit.

8. Nike
Last year, Nike and its employees contributed more than $94,000 of support for Oregon Food Bank through their matching employee giving campaign.

9. Portland General Electric
PGE highlighted Oregon Food Bank as an organization to donate to that resulted in employees giving over $78,000 last year.

10. Regence
As an incentive, the company’s foundation matched donations 50% to increase each employee’s impact, for a total contribution from Regence and Regence employees of over $64,000.

11. The Standard
For the second year, The Standard Insurance and Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company both matched dollar-for-dollar donations made by employees furthering their impact for a total of over $116,000 to help address the root causes of hunger.

12. Walsh Construction
Continuing their long-time support, Walsh employees donated over $44,000 with their company match in 2018.

From small businesses to large corporations, we are grateful for the support of our community business partners and their enthusiasm to continue to feed the human spirit.

“Caring about people is a core value of our business and our commitment to the community,” says Bob Speltz, Senior Director of Public Affairs at The Standard. “Our employees reflect this value by giving to organizations, like Oregon Food Bank, that are committed to creating strong and vibrant neighborhoods, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. The company matches that commitment dollar-for-dollar because we believe we can make a real difference in the communities we call home.”
