Oregon Food Bank is proud to announce Fred Meyer as our September 2023 Community Cultivator!

Community Cultivators are engaged leaders who take action to advance food justice and to eliminate hunger and its root causes. As a dedicated partner of Oregon Food Bank, Fred Meyer is changing the future of hunger in Oregon by addressing food waste and inequity in our communities. That’s why we have selected Fred Meyer as our Community Cultivator for September during Hunger Action Month.

"Fred Meyer associates and each of our stores play an integral role in eliminating the disparity between hunger and food waste in Oregon”, said Todd Kammeyer, Fred Meyer President. “We value our partnerships to help our neighbors and communities secure equitable access to a healthier, brighter future.”

Fred Meyer has been an active member of the Oregon Food Bank community for over twenty years. Through their ambitious and timely Zero Hunger Zero Waste commitment, they are building stronger communities and expanding food recovery programs with a goal of providing more than three billion meals by 2025. In fact, Fred Meyer was a founding member of the Fresh Alliance Program, donating millions of pounds of high quality groceries to Oregon Food Bank and directly to our partner agencies.

Along with KPTV, Fred Meyer is a champion of the Hunger-Free Project, working to build communities that never know hunger. Locally, Fred Meyer directed a record one-year total of 1.2 million meals in 2022, and 207,567 meals from reclaimed food in the first quarter of 2023 alone! Throughout the month of September, Fred Meyer customers can round up their purchase or buy a $10 virtual bag filled with nutritious items for local food banks.

We are so grateful for Fred Meyer’s hard work towards ending hunger. Equitable food distribution practices, philanthropic initiatives, and their many cutting-edge hunger relief projects are just the beginning of Fred Meyer’s food justice work. To truly end hunger, we need to focus on the root causes, poverty and inequity, and Fred Meyer is a crucial partner in our work in these areas.

Fred Meyer, thank you for being part of the end of hunger in Oregon.
