Significant Investments In The Oregon Food Bank Network

SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENTS IN THE OREGON FOOD BANK NETWORK

Among our wins this session are significant investments in Oregon’s food assistance network, including:

$10 million for food purchasing

As demand for food assistance continues to rise, these critical one-time funds are dedicated to local purchases that help fill gaps in the donated food supply. The investment will allow Oregon Food Banks to get ahead of expected shortfalls in food donations and strategically invest in local economies and ensure a steady food supply.

$14.3 million for food system infrastructure improvements

More than $14 million was allocated to our Network of Regional Food Banks to help improve aging food system infrastructure. This investment also includes nearly $1 million in foundational funding for the visionary Black Community Food Center led by our partners at Feed em’ Freedom Foundation.

$6.3 million for the Oregon Hunger Response Fund

The Oregon Hunger Response Fund (OHRF) supports regional food bank budgets in a host of important ways. We are excited to share that OHRF was funded at $6.3 million for the next biennium — nearly $2 million above current funding levels!

The Oregon Food Bank Network provides vital support for more than a million people facing food insecurity each year. Yet we know we can’t end hunger for good through food alone — we have to address the policies and systems that drive poverty in our communities. Sign up to stay informed on state and federal policies that will help eliminate hunger at its roots!
