Supporting Community Solutions with 2023 Legislative Investments
The best ideas for community prosperity are developed by and with local leadership and flourish when rooted in regional, statewide and national networks.
Critical to ending hunger is a robust and thriving ecosystem of partners across our region. To support community solutions, we’ll use the community power and local wisdom of the Oregon Food Bank Network of 21 regional food banks supporting more than 1,400 food assistance sites accessed by more than 1 million people in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Specific local projects and solutions to hunger funded by Rooted + Rising have been designed and prioritized by each regional food bank. Investments include upgrades to facilities and transportation, expanded capacity for fresh foods, emergency response resources, increased staffing and more. Together we will strengthen our network by strategically channeling support to where it is needed most, with a transformative regional and statewide impact.
To put this vision into action, we entered the 2023 legislative session with a bold, audacious request to strategically move resources toward local solutions, where it is needed most, achieving optimal statewide impact.
The legislature responded with $14.3 million in funding, including:
More than $10 million for 15 Oregon-based regional food banks
More than $4 million for five Oregon Food Bank branches (including approximately $980,000 of direct support for Feed’em Freedom Foundation)
A united advocacy front from the Oregon Food Bank Network of Regional Food Banks was essential to our success in the session.
