First Tech’s ongoing actions to combat hunger

October 2, 2019 – As we reflect on this year’s Hunger Action Month, we gratefully acknowledge our presenting sponsor First Tech Federal Credit Union, who’s been a vital community partner in fighting hunger and its root causes across Oregon.

First Tech’s holistic commitment to ending hunger runs deep. Which is why, year after year, they continually support our on-the-ground work to improve equitable access to food and mobilize volunteers to enact that mission.

“For more than 30 years, First Tech employees have donated their time and efforts to support the work of Oregon Food Bank – collecting food, raising funds and volunteering thousands of hours to help end hunger,” says Director of Development Angela Querfeld. “Like us, they know that hunger is a community-wide symptom of unequal access to healthy food, and like us, they believe in community-led change.”

“The compounding impact of hunger demands innovative solutions. Which is why we’re proud to support Oregon Food Bank’s efforts to bridge access barriers and bring nutritious food to families across the state,” says Rachel Miller, Community Engagement Manager at First Tech Federal Credit Union. “Together, alongside the community, we’re committed to creating meaningful change that redefines the possibilities of tomorrow.”

Beyond First Tech’s Hunger Action Month involvement, their employees donate time and talent to moving our mission forward through volunteerism. With employee volunteering and giving initiatives like Days of Service and the 5 for $500 Challenge, First Tech employees support our work by sorting and packing food to meet the immediate needs of families in our communities and work toward ending hunger once and for all.

“I volunteer because it brings me happiness and helps me feel connected to my community,” says First Tech employee Riane Sherman. “I take action because I can and because no one deserves to go hungry.”

First Tech is focused on helping the Oregon Food Bank provide children and families with the food and resources they need to learn, grow and thrive. To First Tech, this means supporting solutions to our communities’ most pressing needs today and supporting the development of innovative change for tomorrow.
